Education is Fairfax County’s highest priority. A good education, which begins in early childhood, provides the path to success for all of our youth. Our excellent school system is one of the primary reasons why businesses seek to locate in Fairfax County.
Families know that Fairfax County schools are top-notch, and supported consistently by the Board of Supervisors and the taxpayers of Fairfax County. Penny’s two daughters and stepson attended Fairfax County public schools, graduating from the old Thomas Jefferson High School, Annandale High School, and the new Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, so she understands the challenges facing students and parents today.
Penny is a strong advocate for improving education and facilities to provide a top quality learning environment for all our children. She brought renovation dollars to Mason District schools, spearheading the effort to build the new Glasgow Middle School and the current construction of a new elementary school on what is known as the Lacey site in Annandale.
Penny supports initiatives that would provide Pre-K classes for four-year-olds, a program that is considered essential in assuring that even our youngest children are provided educational and developmental opportunities.
Penny cosponsored the initiative of the Board of Supervisors to ensure that county resources are available to augment school resources for families with students in disciplinary situations. We must work together to ensure a successful future for all of our children.
