Parks & Recreation

swingLike the rest of Fairfax County, Mason District enjoys the benefits of fine parks and recreational facilities, which Penny steadfastly supports.  You need only look at the new synthetic field at Mason District Park to find evidence of Penny’s substantive support to improve active recreation opportunities for our community.

One of the wonderful features of Mason District and Fairfax County is its focus on parks and recreation throughout the County.  With such investments as the new synthetic soccer field at Mason District Park, or simply maintaining community parks like Backlick or Wilburdale, Penny Gross has demonstrated that she knows and appreciates the benefits that parks bring to our residents.

Thousands of Mason residents employ the facilities at Mason District Park and Green Springs Garden Park, with their wide expanse of woods, gardens and green spaces.  Pinecrest Golf Course keeps us swinging, and the numerous children’s playgrounds provide much needed safe, physical activity for our youngsters.  Penny is committed to constantly improving these services and the fun and exercise they provide to Mason residents, and looks forward to continued cooperation with groups like the Bailey’s Beautification Alliance.

If you want to meet Penny in a wonderful surrounding, drop by Mason District Park for the free concert series, Spotlight by Starlight at the Newton Edwards Amphitheatre.  There you will usually find Penny with hundreds of Mason residents enjoying tap, jazz, folk music from around the globe, blues, big band, and more.  As a proud member of the Friends of Mason District Park, Penny Gross reached out to local businesses to contribute to the free concert series and they have responded enthusiastically.

If you’re up for something more physical, there’s the Cross-County Trail offering a 40 mile hike through the area.  Or pull out a bat or a racket to enjoy playing on the ball fields and tennis courts maintained by the County under Penny Gross’ watchful eye.

Penny supports the County goal of maintaining 10% green space, to make sure that in our development, we do not forget that Mason District residents wish to balance revitalization and economic growth, with the beauty and fun that only a vibrant public park system can provide.
