Revitalization

blueprintsAs the first developed portions of Fairfax County, some of Mason District’s commercial areas are in need of revitalization.  Two areas of greatest opportunity are Bailey’s Crossroads and the Annandale Central Business District.  Penny Gross took the lead when the Board of Supervisors adopted Comprehensive Plan changes for both areas that encourage and define mixed use options for redevelopment.

Supervisor Gross is passionate about smart growth and development that does not simply add density, but increases vibrancy and services to Mason District residents and businesses.

Intelligent revitalization does not attempt to reinvent communities, but rather seeks to improve communities via investment in future services and replacement of tired or inefficient buildings, streets, and streetscape, so that areas are more inviting and consumer friendly.  Penny Gross keeps her eye on the needs of our existing communities and ways to improve the look and function of Bailey’s Crossroads and downtown Annandale.

Mason District shopping areas have improved during Penny’s tenure.  Penny worked with numerous business and property owners to ensure renovations of Loehmann’s Plaza, Barcroft Plaza, Seven Corners Shopping Center, Crossroads Center, and Baileys Crossroads Shopping Center in Falls Church, Bradlick Shopping Center and Little River Center in Annandale, and Landmark Plaza in the Lincolnia area had community support.  Coming soon is the long-awaited rebuild of the Westlawn Shopping Center in Falls Church.  Maintaining community character while improving business opportunities for all in Mason District is an important focus for Supervisor Gross.
