The Arts

school_busThe richness and diversity of our community provides multiple opportunities for enjoying and celebrating the arts.  Penny helped lead the effort that initiated a $500,000 challenge grant to the Arts Council to increase capacity and opportunities for local artists.

The yearly grant is leveraged three-fold by local non-profit arts groups, one of the most successful local arts efforts in the region.  Penny also sponsored the 2010 Arts Amendment to Fairfax County’s Compre-hensive Plan, which ensures that arts opportunities are included in future land use planning.

Whether it’s the regular appearances of various artists at the free summer concert series, Spotlight by Starlight, at Mason District Park or the delightful efforts of school choral and drama groups, music and dance are alive and well in Mason District.  Penny supports, encourages, and welcomes the contributions of artists in our community.  She even provides gallery space for local artists to hang their work at her office.  Paintings, watercolors, photographs, and quilts are among the arts celebrated at the Mason District Government Center.

Life and art are not separated in Mason District.  We all benefit from the opportunity to enjoy the works of our most talented residents, and Penny will continue to promote these blessings for the enjoyment of all.
